What is it? 
Used in many lifestyle products, sand-based silicone is a human-made elastomer (a polymer with elastic properties) that has the properties of both plastic and rubber.

Why use it?
We use silicone for its long lasting and durable qualities. It is perfect for accessories designed to be handled every day, such as phone cases, as it has a smooth silky touch and is easy to clean.

We choose silicone for its strength, resistance and high quality, plus it is easy to color to provide different aesthetics. 

Eco credentials
While plastic tends to be made from crude oil that’s extracted from the ground - a non-renewable resource - silicone is made from silica which is easily found in sand. While this can’t be considered an unlimited resource, it’s definitely more abundant. Silicone products can be recycled and are preferable to plastic because they don’t contain harmful chemicals like phthalates and BPA.

It’s also more durable so silicone products often last longer and do not need to be replaced as often/generate less waste than plastic products, making it a more eco friendly product to its alternatives.
